The great mosque in djenné is truly the most significant structure of clay. It is the greatest achievement of the Sudano-Sahelian style of architecture, despite some Islamic influence. The mosque is near the river of Bali in the city jenna. In 1988 the building was listed in the UNESCO world Heritage list. In the climate of the Sahara desert, where almost no rain, these buildings could stand for a century.
