The great mosque in djenné is truly the most significant structure of clay. It is the greatest achievement of the Sudano-Sahelian style of architecture, despite some Islamic influence. The mosque is near the river of Bali in the city jenna. In 1988 the building was listed in the UNESCO world Heritage list. In the climate of the Sahara desert, where almost no rain, these buildings could stand for a century. However, in Africa in the area are the rainy seasons, during which the Great mosque is seriously affected.
For the first time the mosque was built on this site in the 13th century. Start of construction of the present mosque is attributed to 1906 and finished in 1907.
